Power Management on Hackintosh

after upgrading to 10.5.2 i noticed that several features in the hackintosh just did not work.
one of them was the power icon in the bar.

after reading about it a little i found the way to restore the power management feature (partially).

first backup these files:
/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle
/System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext

then download the attached files and overwrite the existing ones,
lastly fix permissions with the console commands:

sudo -s
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle
chown -R 0:0 /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext
chown -R 0:0 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext

next reboot,
now configure the power setup for each power scheme ("Battery" and "Power Adapter")
set them both to "Custom" and set the desired behavior.

mine went like this:

go to "System Preferences"

choose "Energy Saver"

in the "Power Adapter" and "Sleep" tab set your settings (mine all set to "never" and no sleep for Hard Drives)

next choose the "Options" tab and set your "Power Adapter" setup mine is only set to display the battery status icon in the menu bar

next do the same for the "Battery" scheme (choose it from the "Settings For" drop-down) and again make sure "Custom" is selected as "Optimization"

now you should be able to see the menu bar icon (if you checked the "Show battery status in the menu bar" checkbox), if not the try rebooting, if it still does not appear use this from the console:

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 hibernatefile /dev/null

when the computer is connected to the power adapter the icon looks like this:

when the laptop runs on battery it looks like this:

if the battery status is too low you will get this popup notifying it:

you can click the icon and set several parameters from the icon such as display time left on battery.

Enjoy.

please use a name so i can refer to you,

since i don't have space to preserve files on blogger the i use megauploader, at the screen you see in the upper right corner there are 3 big letters you need to write them in the text field and press download.

second it is not my files i downloaded them my selfe probably from insanely mac, but since the links there tend to be many and i never know what worked for me and i want to have an online backup an on the way to help you guys, then this is my way of saving stuff.

hi Jack,

as i saied on my blog many times, you don't have to re install, just deal with the problem and fix it,
nothing is undoable, i have set down and written a complete new section of troubleshooting just for you and others in your situation, here is a link: Hackintosh Hang - what to do?
you can also get to it from the menu (Hackintosh->Troubleshooting)

it will take me several days to fully complete this section but for now it should do.

the menu is from: Milonic DHTML menus
